Differential: What It Is and Can You Service It

Differential: What It Is and Can You Service It

Ever Wondered What your Differential is? This basic car part may blow your mind. Do you often turn your car when driving? We're sure you do, whether it's merging onto I-95 or turning off Street Road. Something you may not realize though is there's a part of your vehicle that is necessary to allow you to do that, it's called the Differential. How A Differential Works When you go around any kind of curve the wheels on the inside of the curve move slower than the wheels on the outside. This is just like a NASCAR driver can pass another on the inside of a turn, only it's all on one car. So, any rear-wheel drive car or truck must have a set of gears that allows the two parts of the axle to turn the wheels at two different speeds. The Differential is the name for this whole unit. Watch this in motion here. (This is the Rear Differential of a 2011 Chevy Tahoe.)   Differential Service near me Although this ma ... read more

What is a Cabin Air Filter and Can I Replace It?

What is a Cabin Air Filter and Can I Replace It?

It's a beautiful day, the sun is shining and you jump in the car to run out and get some errands done. It's getting warmer out so you reach for the knob and crank up the AC. No matter what time of year it is or wherever you're going, you won't ever want to be without a clean Cabin Air Filter! What is a Cabin Air Filter? Turning on the fan in your car pulls air from outside into the passenger area called the cabin. In the case of your Air Conditioning a refrigerant cools down that air, but - either way - when it comes in it should be clean right? That's why, just like your engine, a manufactured, pleated filter catches contaminates like pollen particles and dust before they get blown into the air you breathe.  - D I R T Y -   - C L E A N -Is it hard to replace a Cabin Air Filter? No. It really isn't generally. The Cabin Air Filter is often located behind the glovebox, though is also so ... read more

CZmarlin, Wikimedia, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ At first glance, the commercial with a shiny silver vehicle rambling past buffalo and all manner of other wildlife may make you think this is the first All Electric Jeep. It's not. It is a very formidable hybrid though and since the age of the Toyota Prius we've all heard about the unbelievable fuel economy and environmental-friendliness of half-electric, half-gas cars. What is Antifreeze anyway?

What is Antifreeze anyway?

There's a lot of things to know about your car. What you may be thinking is: all I want to know is how much money will it take to keep it on the road? A great question for everyone. At Frank's Servicenter we can easily demystify all the automotive jargon and keep you going where you need to go. If you're interested though here's a closer look at one of the essential engine components that gets you from Point 'A' to Point 'B': Antifreeze. Although electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, most cars on the road have something called an Internal Combustion Engine. What that means is a series of tiny micro explosions produces the energy you need to move down the road. Obviously, though, all that exploding and re-exploding gets a little warm. In fact, most engine's operating temperatures are around 200 degrees farenheit. So in order to keep the motor from getting too hot we use coolant.  Coolant is a watery mixture that runs through channe ... read more

Windshield Repair in Southampton, PA

Windshield Repair in Southampton, PA

Most of us rely heavily on our cars during the summer, whether to get back to the office or to get away to the nearest beach. However, you can never know when something unexpected might happen, such as a broken windshield or cracked window. If you find yourself facing this issue, do NOT panic.    Summer tends to be very dry and hot, with lots of sand, rocks, and other debris on the roads. Because of this, a pebble hitting your windshield while driving is not uncommon and could very much happen to you. If you have a minor crack on your windshield, the best thing to do is find an auto repair shop that will help you fix the damage as soon as possible.  Window cracks tend to grow more prominent over time, especially in the heat.    By having the damage repaired as soon as possible, you can stop the crack from spreading and obscuring your vision while driving. In most states in the US (including PA), driving with a cracked windshield is illegal. Pennsylvania st ... read more
