How Much Does a Fuel Pump Cost?

Gone are the days of your local mechanic reaching under the hood, taking out a mechanical fuel pump with a few hand tools and giving you a bill for $100. With strict emission standards and increased performance standards the simple fuel pump has changed greatly. The majority of vehicles on the road will now have an electric fuel pump mounted inside of the gas tank. This pump has a high demand and is constantly running whenever the engine is. These pumps can cost as much as $500 – $1500 dollars! The next level of fuel control is "GDI" or "gasoline direct injection". These fuel pumps are mounted on the engine and capable of making thousands of pounds of pressure. The GDI fuel system has even greater levels of control for increasing fuel economy.
