A water pump on a car or truck engine uses centrifugal force to send coolant through the cooling system while it turns. The combustion engine produces so much heat that it needs constant flow to maintain proper temperature. The fluid leaving the pump flows first through the engine block and cylinder head, then into the radiator and finally back to the pump. The flow of coolant is regulated by the thermostat and the heat from the coolant is dispersed by the radiator.
