How To Prepare Your Vehicle For The Cold Weather Ahead

With a few simple steps, you can prepare your vehicle to handle whatever winter throws your way!

1. Check Your Battery

Cold weather can make it harder for your Battery to work. If your Battery is weak, your car might not start when it’s really cold outside. Before fall hits, get your battery tested to make sure it’s in good shape. If it’s old or showing signs of wear, it might be time to replace it.

2. Top Off Fluids

Fall weather can take a toll on your car’s Fluids. Make sure you have enough windshield washer Fluid, and use one that’s designed for colder temperatures so it doesn’t freeze. Check your antifreeze levels too. Antifreeze helps your engine stay warm in the winter and prevents it from freezing up.

3. Inspect Your Tires

Good Tires are essential for driving in fall. Cold temperatures cause Tires to lose air pressure, so check them regularly and make sure they’re properly inflated. If you live in a snowy area, consider switching to winter tires, which have better traction on icy roads.

4. Replace Your Wipers

Fall weather means more snow, rain, and ice on your Windshield, making it harder to see. Old or worn-out wipers won’t do a good job of clearing your windshield, so replace them before the cold weather starts. Also, keep an ice scraper in your car to clear off frost and ice.

5. Check Your Heaters and Defrosters

You’ll want your heater working when the temperatures drop. Make sure your car’s heating system is in good condition so you stay warm on your drive. Also, check the defrosters to ensure they work well, keeping your Windshield clear of fog or ice.

6. Keep an Emergency Kit

Keep an emergency kit in your car with items like a blanket, flashlight, extra warm clothes, snacks, and a first-aid kit. Don’t forget jumper cables in case your Battery dies!

7. Get Your Brakes Checked

Your brakes are extra important in fall conditions when the roads are icy or rainy. Before fall starts, have your brakes inspected to make sure they’re in good condition. Good Brakes help you stop safely, even in slippery conditions.
